Zimbabwe
We went to Zimbabwe to visit Victoria Falls. It was very interesting that they were using US Dollars which was very strange for me to see.

July 8th: Part two day 10: Last day
Dear Journal
Today we woke up early,8:00 or so in the morning ready to start our adventure in Zimbabwe. My dad and I got ready then called up to Aleisha and Ansley’s room to tell them we were heading to breakfast. We ate at the buffet that they offered, the new topic to ponder on was if we could find a way for Aleisha to come to Texas to work as our nanny for a week. That topic was a debate topic all the way until our driver came to take us to Victoria Falls. We were on a bus with 6 or so other people that would be our tour group. When we got to Victoria Falls we took a few pictures then listened to a long lecture on the Falls history and were all we would be walking to. When the lecture was over, finally, we headed on our Victoria Falls tour, we first saw a baboon about 10 feet into our tour, we observed the cuteness for a bit then continued. We then saw a case full of animals skulls, how that related to the falls, maybe those were the animals that drank from the falls, I have no idea though because I was too busy looking around. We continued, then I went up to our tour guide and asked how safe bungee jumping was, he said:” It’s really safe, yet I won’t lie to you one girl’s bungee snapped on the rebound and she lived but got really wet and scraped up, she was mad.” He did say only one accident happened in ten years and they have made some modifications to make sure it’s safe, I’m sure our odds are good. Aleisha is planning on bungee jumping, or at least wants to. We first stopped in front of the Livingston statue, the guy credited with the discovery of Victoria Falls. We took some photos, read a bit about him, then went to the next sighting, the Zambezi River which flows into Victoria Falls, it was cool, so many little islands and violent rapids. We took photos and videos of the river then headed to the next few points, they all were one individual waterfall fall that was separated by an island from the rest of Victoria Falls. The power of it was crazy, yet its history was crazier, native tribes to the area would sacrifice the women of the village to the gods by throwing them down that individual waterfall to die, harsh. After taking photos with that waterfall, we began to walk to the next point when we saw some kids holding on to vines and swinging like a monkey. We jumped on to the vine and swung, Aleisha and Ansley climbed up the vine, yet I found it more fun to swing back and forward on the vines. Next, we found a fallen tree that we climbed all over and took lots of photos from. Finally, we moved on to the main Victoria Falls. The falls is enormous that only from danger point you can see all the falls from the same point. At those points the water from the falls drenched us, we were all soaked I didn’t be a poncho like Ansley and My dad because I love the rain it feels good, Aleisha didn’t wear it so she could be stylish. We saw a fraction of the falls that was in between the two islands that divide the falls, apparently it’s impossible to survive a drop from the top of the falls to the bottom, not because of its height but because it’s like a vacuum the force of gravity would suck you into the inner falls then you wouldn’t be able to breathe and the sharp rocks of the falls would kill you. We moved to the rainbow falls the third part of the Victoria Falls and the only one I remembered the name to. We looked at the fall and understood immediately why it’s called Rainbow Falls, there was a huge rainbow running across it. By this time it was pouring rain we were all so wet it was crazy, the water from the falls evaporates goes a couple thousand feet up at most then rains down on us.We were all shivering from the rain. Next we went to danger point, the last part of the walk around tour, the point got its name because it’s on an edge with no fence or anything if you fall you fall a couple hundred meters into the water, it was slippery and full of moss, I slipped twice not near the edge, luckily. By the second fall, I was on my hands and knees not worrying about how dirty my clothes were getting, We took a few selfies by the falls, but the rain was so bad it made us want to not stay long. Danger Point overviewed all three points of the falls it was incredible. After danger point, we went back to the main entry area the whole tour took 2-3 hours or so. When we got back to the entry way we went into the gift shop only to discover the overpriced goods, so we went to sit down at the Rainforest Café. We all ordered our drinks, I got water because they were out of fruit smoothies, then our food, I got vegetarian mushroom/veggie pasta. We talked out if Aleisha should come back and be our nanny or not discovering her mom was up at 2 am Seattle time and said Aleisha had a family trip 17- sometime so she could only stay one week, my dad needed a nanny for two weeks so if he had Aleisha it would be 500$ flight changes, she would have to leave early, which means my dad would have to find another nanny to fill in for the other week he was away in Seattle. He decided no so he thought. We walked back to our hotel telling the bus driver to leave us so we could eat, yet on the way back we went to a little market area, I bought a gift there for my mom, then we went back. Back at the hotel, we had to wait until 2:00 for our helicopter ride so in that time we chatted, journaled, changed into dry helicopter ready clothes, I got back into the digital world signing into my Instagram from my dad’s phone since I left mine in Frisco. Then finally the bus taking us to our helicopter arrived and we loaded in at the place we signed in, got weighed, some guy was trying to sell us his merchandise, and we were interviewed by a film crew who would put together a film of our whole ride when we returned. When the helicopter arrived we loaded infilled by the crew, they arranged us in a weird way: separating Aleisha, Ansley and I, my dad went in front, Ansley was on one side of the helicopter with one of two people joining us for the flight, I was on one edge and Aleisha was on one edge seat being separated by a guy in the middle of us, anyway the plane was purple with glass doors and for my dad and the piolet in front a glass floor. We flew over the Victoria falls circling it twice from the sky you can see the edge where the fall begins, you could see the rainbow across the fall, you could see fog/steam looking stuff come up from the falls, it was awesome we had a 15-minute flight we saw the true beauty of the falls that as Livingston said “must have been gazed upon by angels” For a first time in a helicopter it was amazing. When it was over we all were disappointed we wanted it to last forever. After the helicopter ride, we went in a room to watch our film, it was so cool! We bought the photos and film. After, we jumped on the bus and headed back to our hotel. When we arrived as we were walking in we somehow convinced Aleisha to go bungee jumping over the Zambezi river. We signed her up all got ready then walked over there. We went past the Zambia border we had to pass in order to get to the bridge she would be jumping from. We watched a few people go and then went over to sign Aleisha up. Ansley and I got Slurpee’s to watch Aleisha jump. We went out to the bridge that was 400 feet high or something like that and Aleisha got her harness on and all her equipment on. When it was her turn to jump we all had camera’s ready to capture the moment, I had Aleisha’s phone on snap chat, I was so scared I would drop her phone, anyway they counted 5,4,3,2,1 then she jumped head first she fell then luckily the rope didn’t break, it went for a rebound and was swinging around a lot. A person went down and got her, they brought her to the ladder she climbed up to the top on. We meet her at the top and the first thing she said was “That was the best thing I have ever done in my entire life” we showed Aleisha her videos then went to the main area to watch Aleisha’s video filmed by the crew. It was so good Aleisha bought it and the photos. We talked about that the whole way back interviewing Aleisha on how it felt, what it was like if it hurt etc. We ran across lots of animals on the way back monkeys, baboons, warthogs etc. When we got back, we showered, got ready then went to dinner. At dinner, we talked about our whole trip and the best moments. After dinner, we ordered a variety of desserts and ate them all up. When we got back to our rooms Aleisha and I got ready for bed, then I blogged the rest the night. Then went to bed.
Bye,
Riley Jaye
(PS this is my last journal because tomorrow we head back to Texas, but if you’re wondering what tomorrow looks like I’ll tell you. I blog the following day for every blog so this blog is yesterday. Today the highlights are Aleisha convinced her parents to let her come back to Texas after we discovered her ticket is to Dallas, not Seattle, We met a famous youtube Ansley recognized I don’t know her name and were on planes for 30 hours.)
